New job can’t make payroll

In December I interviewed with a high end residential building firm. I was made an offer and started after the holidays, so I’ve been there just less than two months.

Last week there was an issue with payroll and it was issued a day late. This week there is a similar situation and my paycheck is now three days overdue.

I hate the thought of starting to look for something new so soon after starting, but I have serious reservations about the payroll issue. My next payday is this Wednesday and I am still owed for last week, I’m afraid things will start to snowball and they won’t be able to catch up.

Anyone else been in a similar situation?

This has never happened to me. Go to your boss & ask him why the pay delay. If he has any care at all, he will understand the food & shelter thing. After that, you have to make your own decision as to whether to stay or not. (If there is an understandable reason for the hold up, the company should have shared that information by now.) Looking for a job is a full time job & fraught with ups & downs. I totally get the relief you felt when you could finally stop looking. However, the company may continue to benefit from your work w/o compensation as long as you allow them to. You come first. You can start looking again. The good news is that leaving a company for non payment is a very understandable reason.
