I love this video ; ) Your elevator pitch is so important during an interview!
If you are stumped on where to begin try answering the following questions to help get your creative juices flowing!
-What are 2 of the most important (positive) things the interviewer should know about who you are as a person? Make sure to avoid cliches such as you are a "people person" and instead focus on who you really are. It will make you seem much more interesting and they will remember you and appreciate the original answers.
-What are the 5 strongest reasons I am a great fit for this job?
-What are 3 positive things I did in my previous job that I can bring to this one?
-What are 3 (or more) positive things I can say about the company (research it ahead of time if you can) and how can I connect what they do to what I can bring to them?
-Why do I really want this job beyond having a steady paycheck and/or benefits/other perks? (focus on what you can bring to them not the other way around!)
-What is the job description if you have one (write it down) and how do my skills match up with it? Be specific!
Then begin by laying out the things you’re going to say. "I think you should hire me because of X, Y and Z" and use your answers to the questions to frame this. Round off your answer with a strong and confident 'closer' such as: "Overall, I think X, Y, and Z make me a great fit for both your role and your company."
When you have prepared your pitch you will feel much more confident and you will own the interview! Make sure to smile, be positive and bring a high energy. No one wants to interview someone who looks bored, tired, and has poor eye contact. If you exude confidence and you are invested in what they do you have already earned some major points!
Make sure to practice your pitch to friends, family, your pets (haha) or even saying it out loud while you’re in the shower, car, etc. will help. Get in the habit of saying your pitch a LOT and becoming comfortable with speaking about yourself so start now. The old saying practice makes perfect is 100% true!
Good luck with your pitches : ) If you need help just ask, or better yet share your pitch! Everyone would love to read them!!
