It kind of depends what you signed on for. Some bosses think that if you're on salary that you owe them whatever they want. Can be toxic.

Is it a company phone and are you salary? If not your time ain't free and that is your personal phone. I used to answer mine all the time but decided not to anymore and its been fine.

If it's urgent and you're the only person who knows about it, your boss would have left you a message. So don't worriy if your boss didn't leave a vm.

What's the point of having a day off if you are still expected to work? A day off can mean anything from a family emergency or not feeling well in which case, you may be unable to answer calls from your boss.

I guess it depends a bit on the type of relationship you have with your boss.

There is no way I wouldn’t call back. If it was important enough to call you, it’s important enough to return the call. It’s that simple. Heck, maybe it’s good news.

My boss just abused the heck out of my phone when taking a long weekend with my husband …. He would not call if it was not important… granted I am the office manager and have been in Dallas until just over a year ago … I was also informed I am no longer a member of management… yet while on my time off he is blowing up my phone for something that will keep until Monday when I returned … had my assistant call for help with reports she has never done and wanting me to trouble shoot a minor problem that took me 30minutes to diagnose what was wrong when I returned … set your boundaries up front and when they break them like my boss did this weekend tell them point blunt your off the clock ..

Be up front with your boss. Let them know you will not be taking calls on your day off unless it's an urgent matter.

Think about it. Young folks are used and abused by a Lot of people. If it were me I would just move on. That might be a good thing. You will lose valuable time fighting to get a job back and get fired again for a different reason.
