I recently started a job thru a staffing agency and on my second day of the job was offered a better job which I intend to take. My question who do I give my notice too, the staffing agency or the actual company that I work at? By the way job starts on 25th of this month.

I would give notice to both so bridges aren't burnt. Jean Copeland is right. Send an email with a cc going to both, but include yourself for added protection. Also, I would (to be extra careful) hand write a letter too. Maybe over kill, but never safe than sorry.

To the staffing agency. And 2 wks notice is not necessary when working on temporary assignment. I've worked with temporary companies for years. Assignments come and go.

Staffing agency. They in turn tell your workplace if you are a temp. If you technically work for the company then you tell them.

Melissa, Hi and congratulations on getting a better offer. If the agency tells you to go the day you give them a notice, are you financially prepared. I would tell the staffing agency, (they are the ones that your working for). I think 2 weeks notice is a long notice, consider 1 week, (maybe less). After you tell the agency, out of respect tell the company the agency has you working with.

You notify both of them. Who cares who gets told first. What? Are we in kindergarten? If the TEMPORARY staffing agency gets their panties in a twist over you FINDING a long term job, just remind them that you'll be posting recommendations about their service. I know folks have been conditioned to believe they're " lucky " to have a job but the fact remains that the good employee is the commodity. Bad employees don't give notice. If the company you were assigned to gets uptight about it maybe they should find another way of staffing. Good luck in your new job.

The staffing agency will inform you whether they will notify the company you are placed at, or just replace you. With temp agencies, it is expected for short, high rate turn over to occur. The main objective of a temp firm is proper placement; for employee/employer. Sure, every company/applicant has desire for long term relationships. Thou, on the contrary of feelings of dismissal, you are not failing the program, you have become a proactive participant; hence the new opportunity. Also, if you have become in tact of any other false directive, thinking/feeling you have let down your present employer, there is a misguided/misleading implication between you/agencies/communication. So, above all the correct answer is:

COMMUNICATE WITH ALL WHOM ARE INVESTED .. Shux, tell your family too...
