Where To Turn

I'm in a bind. I was just terminated from a job I truly enjoyed. I was a mileu counselor for a Mental Health & Behavioral facility. I took this job 3 months ago for better pay & not so dangerous, leaving another facility that I worked for about 1.5 years. I was let go because of a case that my daughter & grandson were involved in when they lived with us. I went to school for this line of work & received my Bachelor's degree. I can't appeal the decision because the case was so long ago & can no longer get it expunged. No one told me what would happen so now I'm stuck. I have to start over & I'm 57 & also have bills piling up. My husband is on disability & can't work. I was in a car accident that wasn't my fault, & the woman that hit us had no insurance. I'm still paying off those bills. I'm also becoming really depressed. Suggestions???

Patricia, I read what some of the other job case members said to you.You have been given some very helpful useful advice. Yes, do as others have said Don't harm yourself don't allow yourself to feel sorry for yourself because that will not help you or anyone who is dependent on you. Do they pay for loved ones to be cared for by a family member in your state some states do . If you are physically able to. Talk to a counselor or a pastor or a good friend or family member . Also another job case member made a really good point about volunteering to get a foot in the door . Would allow you to put your skills in to practice and help someone else in need who may require your skills expertise but they may not have the ability to pay for it. You could also look into various jobs working from home until you are able to move about more. I think it's called mommyjobsonline i believe check with Ashley on jobcase she would be of great help and resource on this.

Mr.

Love yourself first of all and realize that your skills are highly valuable in this day and age w half the people in Austin now are on some kind of medication mostly illegal. I meditate 2 times a day for a half HR each time. Morning and night. Pick a mantra, example, jack be nimble jack be q7ick, jack jumped over the candlestick. Most people make Co up their own. It will enable you to be in control of your life. The state desperately needs your expertise. Good Luck and good life living naturally.nk

Hi Patricia,

I'm sorry to read of your situation. This conflict of interest situation that you speak, was it directly related to your current employer? What action other than your employer terminating you was taken against you? If nothing was done that would prevent you from utilizing your psych degree, I would suggest that you look into the corporate world or the realm of education. Think about HR related positions in the corporate arena and/or school counselor/advisor type positions. They may not be ideal, but you never know, you may find that you enjoy it. Good Luck!

I would not think that, that would be legal.. not that I know anything really about it, but I would seek out free legal advice (if you can find some) and discuss the situation with them.... I would also go talk to a counselor, or your minister (if you have one) to discuss your concerns, and issues... sometimes when we talk one on one with people it is like we see a bigger picture and we suddenly see things from a different perspective that helps us to see past our own blind spots., not acting at all could be more depressing than acting, so please do not, not do something.... it is important sometimes that we find a way (legally/ethically) to make a stand for what we know is the right way to go. Just my own thoughts, you have to make up your own mind what is right for you.
