Why is it that I never hear back from HR or employment agency when it is apparent that did not get the job. Even when I reach out and ask, I get no response. What is a an acceptable period of time to wait before contacting the person after either a phone or personal interview?

Same question. I dont hear back and when i call no answer. Why give me a business card if youre not going to answer. Especially after 2 voicemails. a simple Yes or No would be great

- In this age of Internet-based applying, virtually every opportunity draws hundreds or even thousands of applications; no company has HR staff-time to notify the nonselects. They're busy enough trying to satisfy the hiring managers desire to get te selectee hired and on-board. Few companies have people dedicated to the recruitment process; often the hiring process is just another duty for some hard-working HR person. 2) employment agencies normally make their money only when one of their candidates gets selected. There is no motivation to keep other candidates informed. They need to hustle for some other guy/gal for some OTHER opportunity. Sorry, but unless these people think you can be valuable to THEM another time, youcan't expect them to worry about your feelings.

Hi Josephine: Thanks for posting to Jobcase! This is a great question - I would say it's acceptable to follow up on your application within 48-72 hours after applying. That way, you can ask about the status of your application, as well as get a chance to communicate your enthusiasm for the job. Hope this helps!
Again, folks. If you DO get a reply from a hiring company or a recruiter it is a true rarity and those people should be praised to Heaven. They are busy with viablesuccessful candidates and do not have time to try to salve the egos of unsuccessful ones. I have been in that boat literally thousands of times and have learnedd to "just move on." There is no candidate community that shares their experience with HR/recruiters so they do not need to worry about a "reputation" with us. They hold all the cards, so to speak
