Boss is Blackballing Me

A friend and former co-worker told me he overheard my old boss bad mouthing me on a phone call this week. I know she’s been getting calls because I’m still waiting to hear back from at least 2 jobs I already interviewed for. My old boss and I had our issues and didn’t get along at all but I never disrespected her or was insubordinate in any way. Besides, I quit that job on my own, not fired. So why would she go out of her way to speak poorly about me to other managers when the call in to just verify that I actually worked there? That was my last job and I worked there for a long time so I can’t take it off my application without raising any red flags. Is what she’s saying about me even legal?

Wow Marcus, having issues and not getting along, is disrespectful, and in a free will state (right to work) more than enough grounds for termination. Were it my resume, I'd say that "I quit/resigned do to personal problems between the supervisor and myself". Some people do not mesh/meld well together. "And yes, you may contact them", especially if you understand what is being relayed could be discrimination and grounds for a lawsuit. "I do not want to work on that kind of a team any more". Keep your dialogue short and sincere. Other's have posted their concerns too Marcus, and I'm very sure they all were suggested to get an atty. Respectfully, Philip M Brockman

Im no lawyer but passing on things like that can be a lawsuit. because no employers can give out such information but you have to prove he/she is doing it and you would need to get a witness to put it in writing and have it notarized or if it makes it to court you can have that person or persons come to court on your behalf. It is unethical but some jobs do that because i've seen it done to someone before
