The right fit
After my first interview I was told by a recruiter that I was a good fit. But they had one more candidate to look at. Now I'm told that the other candidate is a better fit. Would it have anything to do with the fact that I am over 60 yrs of age???

It could be possible, but I would reach out and ask the recruiter questions to help you better position yourself.

I get that all the time, as I'm 66 now, I get turned away regularly, you need to keep on applying as you will run into someone that appreciates your knowledge and will obey the law and hire quality people!
