Customer Service Representative

BA and BS Degrees

I am still looking for a job that fits my qualifications, which is mainly Customer Service Representative (not in a department store) but the realm. I have between 6-10 years of experience. I have gone as far as downloading the companies in RTP. I have Medical Terminology as well as some other aspects of medical. I am finding that with my experience even entry level jobs are sometimes requesting BS and or BA degrees. I mean in my opinion companies are treating these degrees as throw aways. I understand that individuals graduating from college need jobs, but it is like experience doesn't mean anything. I also hate to go with age which is congruent with experience, but I am 58 and even though I need benefits that is not foremost on my mind. NEED A JOB and I will be there until time to retire or they shut the business down.

I never let the job postings that list degrees as a requirement stop me from applying. Like you I have more experience, training and skills I have acquired over my 30 plus years than anyone with a degree will bring to the company. Just go for it, send in your resume showing your experience, skills, with a good cover letter showing your achievements, then wait for them to call you in for an interview. If they ask about degree or want documentation, be honest that you don't have one but your experience more than makes up for that.

Conflicts Assistant at Dla Piper

The degree thing...well I have a few. Most recently earned a Paralegal Certificate, but have not found anything in the field yet. Obviously, it's that same old, 'we prefer experience", but how do you ever get it if you must already have it? I'm sure the school I attended already knew getting a job was very difficult but all they're interested in doing is selling seats in classroom so they didn't let you in on that part. At this point, it seems perhaps I just wasted $12,000. So, my point is, at least in this field, experience seems much more important.
