Its A Job...
I finally found someone to hire me, its outside my field, but, its a job, right?!?!?!! Im now working for a major hotel on the beach near where i live as a housekeeper,( i desperately needed work), and let me just say....it is HARD work. And i do have to say, some people are just nasty. As i am VERY GREATFUL for the job, i am very frustrated that we get no lunch, nor any breaks in the 8-9 hours we work. I have read that according to my state labor laws, they are required to give us at least 30 minutes for lunch. Today i thought I was gonna pass out due to starvation.....As long as it took me to find this job, I dont want to complain, but, Its gettin hard not to. I find myself gettin Hangry.....its a real thing... I dont want to risk loosing this job while im looking for something inside my field. Should i suck it up and starve, or should i say something to management???? And by the way, the next time your on vacay, and stayin in a hotel, hug your housekeeper, she works her ass off to make your stay cleanier and nicer......

How long did it take for u to get hired tho?

Go to HR be for the chain and say something. This is illegal in all states

I think you can ask about it without sounding like you are complaining. It would be a shame if this is just a misunderstanding or something. But if in fact it is a worst-case scenario and they won't let you break at all for nourishment, then I'd suggest putting some protein bars in a backpack, getting through and spending 1-2 hours each day finding a new job that would treat you better. (its always easier to get a job from a job, so I'd put put with it in the short term if I were in your shoes).
But start with asking them if it'd be ok to take a break for lunch and saying you think you'd be more productive in 7 hours with a break than 8 hours without. Just try to keep the conversation practical and not confrontational (until you have a backup plan lined up!).
thats my 2 cents - look forward to hearing others...

Hi Rebecca, this makes me feel horrible that someone could be so cruel to you and the others who work there. While you are there make sure you are looking for other employment. You should never have to endure those working conditions as they are highly illegal. Complain to your state's labor division in the meantime and get out as quickly as you can. I certainly have always appreciated and left the room as clean as possible for maids during my hotel stays because I cleaned houses for the summer before and know how messy thing can get!! I know this job seems like a good idea right now, but definitely seek out other options! I would tell management that you need your lawfully allowed lunch as you don't feel you can work as well without it. Keep us posted and stay strong Rebecca!!

Hi, Rebecca. I'm so sorry that you're forced to endure these circumstances right now. I certainly think that you should continue looking for other employment as you work at your new job. I understand the impulse to stay with this job since it took you so long to secure employment, however everyone deserves to be treated humanely. I would also suggest that you bring something to eat with you to eat right before you go in for work and something to chow down on right when you finish so you can minimize the amount of time you feel hungry during your shift. Keep working, but don't stop looking for something better. You deserve a job you can be happy with!
everyone is required to get a lunch by state law but i know how u feel wish i was working have been out of work for months anything would be great.
