Opinions please?

I went to an interview and today I received a call from the agency that I was made an offer by the company. I responded back that yes I indeed wanted to proceed and take the offer. I was sent paper work for a new hire to fill out for the agency and I will have to submit to a background check which is pretty common everywhere I know. The situation is that I do have a felony on my record and I worried that even though I was made a offer and giving a start date that once I agree to the background check that I might lose the opportunity. Usually I am asked to submit to a check along with filling out paperwork before an agency even decides to represent me so should I worry that I could lose the offer that has already been made to me once a check is run? I really want this position. I really need this position, for my family. Thank you in advance for anybodies responses, replies, and advice.

Associates Degree earner seeking entry level clerk post. accounting

Unfortunately companies aren't upfront with us when they "offer" us a position. This is NOT a job offer. What this is is a CONTINGENT job offer, because you will only be hired CONTINGENT upon a clean criminal history. The mere fact that they want you to submit to a background check is indicative of their selection process in legalized discrimination against individuals who may have experienced involvement with the criminal justice system.

Be upfront about the felony. Then they will not feel you are trying to hide anything.

I am an HR hiring coordinator for my company and I can tell you this much. For most companies (depending on the position) if you have anything in your background at all of a criminal nature you MUST report it right up front. Once a background is run and it shows up you will be eliminated for failure to disclose. Sorry, but that's pretty much basic in most companies. You have to disclose at the beginning because if it comes out in a background they will consider it not being honest. I hope it doesn't show, but if it does I think you should probably look for another opportunity. Sorry.
