Try, try again
Like a wild animal that has been caged up for 21 years - I am full of energy and eager to rejoin the workforce however leary of doing such at the same time. My past work experience after 21 years doesn't mean anything to people now. So in a lot of ways I'm starting from scratch. On one hand it sucks to say the least, but on the other hand it could work out for the best. Strong will, determination and a positive attitude I know will get me through whatever it is businesses throw my way.
What I found, after 20+ yrs at the same company & then taking a couple yrs off to care for my mother is, the job market is totally different & I’ve never had a resume. Of course I understand the general idea, but to cram 20 yrs into 4-6 relevant bullet points? Job searching, tailoring each resume to a specific job posting, applying, never really hearing back...it’s exhausting! Don’t get me wrong I’m ready to jump back in, its just a bit discouraging. Keep your head up, you’ll find the right job for you. Everything happens for a reason.
Even in the most trying times, it certainly helps to have a positive attitude and some grit! Job seeking is often a test of endurance and drive. Switching careers can be difficult, but I wouldn't discount your previous experience. Try thinking about it like this: during the past 21 years you've picked up skills. Try writing down some of those skills and attributes and see how those may have prepared you for the career you're pursuing now. You may be surprised by the results! It's not until we examine how far we've come that we learn how much knowledge we've truly gained. I wish you all the best in your jobs search, Elizabeth! Good for you, you're an inspiration. Im sure you have skills that you have developed over the last 21 years, that are transferable to the workforce . It can be tough, but Not impossible. God Bless you in your journey.
