why do companies not state salary?
Just curious as to why companies do not state salary in there job ads(most companies not all). I understand that some companies salary are open but I know there are certain companies that have a set salary (union jobs). I also understand that companies want you to apply for there positions, but wouldn't it easier and save alot of time just to state it upfront.

Many companies do not state salaries especially for middle and higher job levels because to do so would exclude applicants they may not want to miss. Remember a rule of business is the first person who puts out a number loses. Not stating a salary invites a wide range and allow them to decide/negotiate later based on skills/education/experience.
