Volunteer

HEB supermarkets has a strong community presence with their support programs like the food bank assistance program and the feast of sharing holiday dinners. Would I be required to volunteer at one or more of these programs as an employee?

I don't see nothing wrong with volunteering It's nice to help out and give your time. You will be blessed. In God's eyes, we're v called to serve.

I have done more than my share of volunteering. Unfortunately, I no longer have the financial ability to spend time volunteering. I need to get back to work. My professional network continues to grow. I am applying and using the benefits of social media, friends, family and colleagues to expand my network. My time now is spent on Social Media, which in turn also helps others and my job hunt. Volunteering is a wonderful thing. Best of success to you in your efforts. The benefits to those you help is always appreciated and needed. God bless you.

I worked for a company where we were very, very heavily pressured to contribute to a major well-recognized charity. There was a system of envelopes that had to be returned, sealed and anonymous, whether or not we contributed, and events went on for a month that publicly solicited more contributions with bake sales, silent auctions, and the like. If you weren't seen participating, you were "spoken to." This became hard to navigate because I chose to spend my charity dollars in other ways than this charity who spent a high percentage for administration costs. I decided to spend time rather than money and used company time for volunteering. As Frederick said, if you're required to volunteer you're not volunteering. So I found a way to integrate this requirement into my work day.

This is all a long way of saying that you can find a way to satisfy the company and still maintain your principles. Ask questions. Is this a deal-breaker? What do other people do? Would you volunteer in this way regardless? Can you apply your usual service activities? Etc. Good luck to you.

If you are "required to volunteer" you are not volunteering. You are being compelled. Whether or not you are OK with that situation is up to you, but lets not abuse the English language and common sense by utilizing a term like "required to volunteer"
