I moved to Michigan from Texas and after 20+ years at a senior level HR Manager, find it difficult to land a job in the area. Mainly because the salaries are so low, and many employers are only looking for folks with 3-5 years of experience. How do you get past the "you are over qualified and we can't afford your skills?"

Put your HR hat back on and think about it. If a company does not have HR Manager who do they turn too? They turn to an Executive Level Recruitment Firm (ELRF) check out this website & other ELRF websites....... www.topexecutivesearchfirms.com. It is your best option, as u already know (as a Sr HR Mgr) the ELRF will fight to get the candidate the highest salary possible, since their fees are based on the salary they place. So register with all the ELRF as possible and let them work for you.....just my thoughts as fellow HR professional

Always pray to God, and watch God change things. With a sincere heart! God bless you

You should have moved to Philadelphia PA. The jobs are great. The weather is much milder. And so many different cool places to live. Just one problem our taxes are high. And our rent will soon follow California.

Don't put this on your resume!

You can hire a company to put in front of key players such as VP's. They work for you because you're paying them to find you a high level job that pays what you want. Couple of companies that I have found actually give some level of a guarantee.
Salaries are low in Michigan because they were so dependent on the auto industry and they lost all those jobs. If you wish to stay in Michigan, you may have to. Resign yourself to working yourself back up the ladder to stay in HR.
