Money Talk

What’s the best way to ask for a raise? I have been working at this job for over 2 years without a performance review or increase in pay. The job and the people I work with are real cool but everything I need to maintain my life is going up except my pay so that means it’s time to have that money talk with my boss. The warehouse manager is a nice guy but you know how people’s attitude changes drastically when it comes to money. Any advice on how I should engage this convo?

First of all make sure you document your accomplishments. Talk about your value to the company. Make sure to mention that you look at this job as s career not just a job. Speak highly about the company and how you align with their values. Put it all on paper. Make a formal appointment with your boss and be confident and straight forward. Good luck!

Roger, Just go to your boss and ask to talk to him and ask him what is the deal? If he doesn't have a good answer I might look for another job but not tell anyone or go over your bosses head and talk to HR. Can't hurt and it may ease your mind. God luck, Lisa Tenwick

Do some research on glassdoor.com about comparable pay for your job. Make list of your responsibilities and accomplishments and how you are helping the company. Try to arrange a meeting with your supervisor and discuss about your pay increase.

Try to negotiate and remain respectful. Many companies today are having financial troubles. Everything is going up instead of our paychecks; but, if you write down what you have done for the company and can continue to do in the future; perhaps you can begin by asking, "do you feel I have contributed to the benefit of our company" Then, you may want to discuss this after he has had lunch and when he is in a good mood.

Maybe when work is slow, and before it's time to go home for the day. I'm really not great at negotiating but, use your respect and common sense. "Is there a chance I could hope for a raise" If yes, how much please, and when can I hope to see it in my pay check? Good luck.

I agree with james Submit a formal request that the company issues and if they don't , get in front of your boss stand your ground remind him/her of your progress and if nothing transpires say within a quarter year..give yourself the raise of better pay elsewhere! I have done that twice before both times giving myself from 4 to a 7.00 raise in pay both times!

Timing is everything. Make sure you get him on a Friday or when he’s alone in the office. Good idea to schedule some one on one time to meet away from the warehouse work area. Be confident!

Roger, make sure you can back up or justify the raise with job performance facts and accomplishments.
