Leasing Consultant

I've had two interviews at two separate apartment complexes for a leasing consultant position. I think it would be a great transition for me (I was formerly a legal assistant for a major shopping mall company in the Lease department), however, the pay is $5 less an hour than I was making. In the interview, I was told about the opportunity to make extra money through commission and bonuses, but it being my first interview here, I didn't want to ask a lot of questions about that or take notes. I have a good feeling I may be offered the job, and my interviewer did say she would be conducting second interviews next week. How do I handle my salary concerns? Since my last job 6 months ago, my son's child support income has expired, and my son is attending a vocational school where I have a parent loan that I will need to begin paying.

Hi Nina: This is a great question, so thanks for posting it to the community! I would definitely ask more questions about commissions and bonuses in your second interview - and it's totally okay to ask, don't feel like you're doing a bad thing. Ask what you need to do to earn these bonuses, and if they're a monthly opportunity or yearly opportunity. Go out there and get it!
