Executive Housekeeper

I have 28 years of hotel housekeeping experience and am having a very difficult time getting back in and I am now 65 but if you look at me you would think I am 48. I have tried to put myself out there as a Housekeeping Consultant but have only had one opportunity. What am I doing wrong? I suspect that when I submit my resume perhaps my experience is too much and may be too costly? Please advise. Thank you

I would try a hospital or management position in house keeping. If I'm understanding your experience correctly, then you would be great as a manager. I did my internship at a hotel and their manager did a check of all of the rooms before guest arrival. Check your resume and keep it to one page. List your experience in house keeping and include a time when you had a leadership role. Also, check for private cleaning companies or even find temp work in people's homes. If an application asks for a desired wage, drop it down a notch. I worked for a company where a computer would throw out applications if the requested wage was too high. Do your research and you can even call the HR department to follow up on your application. "Hello, my name is Francine and I am following up on my application that I submitted (last week?)." Sometimes, the HR person will remember an application. Chat with them and then add something like, "I fear that I might have made an error on the desires wages. I have years of experience and I'm willing to discuss/negotiate my wage if hired." Do your homework and see how low you are willing to drop your income if needed. You can always write an email, but I prefer phone calls. I hope this helps!

What does a housekeeping consultant do? I think that is your problem. To me, a Housekeeping Consultant is some one who tells me how to get the housekeeping done. Who needs that? What people need is a housekeeper. If you are opening up your own cleaning business, I would call myself something different.
