More hours, not overtime!

I work in a warehouse, and it seems as though the only extra hours available are at night. It’s technically overtime for me, but I have a family and I don’t want to be away from them. How can I get more DAYTIME hours?

Well it might go by seniority or maybe you can pick up more day hours by working for someone who have day hours and need a day off. Are tell yoyr manager that you prefer to pick up hoyrs on day shift

Man, honestly I'd ask my boss or HR about that. Every place is different but that sounds like a question for someone you work with.

Eric !! Your issue is one that is totally controlled by management. I would suggest that you ask your supervisor, if it is possible that you be assigned to the day shift only with overtime limited to day time shift. Perhaps it is possible that you can come in earlier and work through the day shift. That would result in some overtime pay provided that you work over 40 hours in a given week. Good Luck !!!

Hey Eric, over time are hours worked by an employee beyond his/her 40 work week, now 30 hours. These extra hours are set at the discretion by the employer, in support of the organization's mission or special projects. And while some organizations structure over time so as to be available to a majority of its employees, nothing compels an employer to arrange overtime schedules around an employee. The fact that overtime is available is a blessing, you can't have both ways. Good luck.

Yeah, it’s worth being honest about needing hours. But what if you worked overtime one or two nights? Would the money make up for it? You wouldn’t be away from your family too much.

Try being more specific with your manager about what you need. Don’t just say you need more hours, say you need more daytime hours.
