Starting new chapter of my life
For the last 18 years I have been self employed and worked from home, my business has fallen off to the point that I am having to go back into the workforce. I have experienced a few bumps in my life over the last 22 years so finding a job has been more difficult. Last week I was hired by a restaurant to work in their catering department as a delivery driver and production assistant. I have not worked in the food-service industry since college and the pay for this job is much less than I am used to. I am hoping that corporate customers tip decently to make up for it. The hours are 5 AM to 1 PM which will be a big change for me as I am typically a night owl, so I hope my body adjusts quickly. My biggest concern is my two teenage sons; I am divorced and they are with me 3-4 nights a week so now they will have to get themselves up and about in the morning. My youngest has school sports that he has to be at school by 6:40 AM and luckily his mother lives 4 streets away so she can get him to school on her way to work. My oldest is in HS and we live far enough away that he can take the bus if not get a ride from a friend. Big changes all around, I havent worked an 8-hour day in almost 10 years. I have been spoiled by the flexibility of working from home. Oh and I still have my business to run when I get done with the day job. This is not how I planned to spend my late 40's and rest of my life.
True. Those are huge changes, but if you can adapt to change and manage your time you will be just fine.
