I've been driving for 23 years and can't get this question answered. Why don't trailers have back up light. Commercial or private.

Travel trailers are the only commercially built trailer that have backup lights standard.
The biggest reason backup lights are not installed on trailers is because of the added cost and it's not a D.O.T. Requirement, and yes manufacturers of smaller privately owned trailers do have D.O.T. Requirements they must meet. On C.M.V.,s you can add a work light on a switch on the dash of the truck you would have to add a second pigtail to the tractor and second plug in to the trailer.

Because they’ll confuse the average J.B Hunt driver!

Because, you really should have a ground guide if you can't see behind your trailer.

I have no idea but trucks need to stay in the right lane. Not the middle or left lane, those are for cars only

Seriously? I would imagine is not needed,I ve never thought :"Gee,I need more light behind the trailer, where I can t really see anyway." But if you want to equip your own trailer with it you can,but it will be costly, about $600.00. I guess is the same reason we don t have back up cameras, the technology is there, the money? probably not.

Put a flash light on the ground it help snack by dock on line

Mainly because they are not dot required equipment and they are expensive so companies are not going to buy them.

It's been demmed unsafe!! Because someone will leave them on while driving down the road!!

Don't start as an owner operator unless you have slot of capital, use your money and build a career
If you want to add back up lights there is an extra wire in the plug to add them , it used to be a blue wire, you will have to run wire for the lights and find the same circuit in the harness at the tractor ( unless you are lucky and it is already wired to a switch in the dash) and add a switch perferably lighted so you know there on .
