Your 1 best piece of advice
Hey everyone - what's the single best piece of advice you can give to a newbie trucker? I've been asking around and love to hear everyone's thoughts. Thanks!

You must like it and enjoy it or it's not going to work out I've been doing it for over 48 years

It’s not just a job it’s a lifestyle you must fit into it or it will destroy you and your family If you fit though it’s amazing

Hi Liz! Welcome to the world of trucking!! Best advise? Do not be in a rush AND BE VERY AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS! Being inexperienced is OK. Get out and look even if you think everything is alright (referring to backing manuevers). Being inexperienced AND NOT GETTING OUT TO LOOK is NOT OK!! Don't be intimidated by situations or other impatient drivers. Stay calm, assess each situation (i.e. is there room to turn/room to back safely). Congratulations and safe travels!

A friend told me that if I didn't love it in 6 months then go home there are enough people out here who hate it and do it it shitty all day we don't need more. So there you go the advice from a 30yr veteran to a 10 year newbie to you.

it.s not critical, but newbies often have trouble backing up. My tip is to put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel instead of the top. to move the trailer left move your hand left actually turning wheel to the right. opposite for moving trailer to the right. hope this helps and good luck. safe driving.

No matter ehat they day the world is NOT going to end if that load is late.

Nobody cares about you more than you! Not the didpatcher not the shipper not the reciever cops other traffic. Dont be talked into driving if your tired bad weather unsafe equipment. Trust yiur instincts.

U r the worst truck driver in the world

You're getting paid no matter what so take it easy
Don't ever drive your truck into an area or jobsite where you can't back out the way you went in. Also if you drive into a jobsite, get out and walk your route first and get familiar where obsticles are that you might not see from inside the cab and make sure the ground is stable where you don't sink up to your axles.
