Carpentry's one of those flexible businesses where you can start building your brand through word-of-mouth. Start putting your name out there to your neighbors, friends, and family members. Let them know what you can do, what you're willing to work on, and how much you'll charge. You might need to lowball your prices a bit when you start, but once you have a few happy customers, you can start charging normal prices.

Keep in mind that you can also join a contracting company to build up skills, make connections, and meet potential clients. You can do your own projects on the side to build your clientele, and you can leave that contracting company once you have enough work to start your own business.
