Wasnt hired because they added a requirement 7days after my interview.
Went to the interview, nailed it great. Was told that I had great background . Had the necessary skills. And then I contacted to see if I'd be joining the company 7 days later, only to be told the supervisor wants someone who is bilingual. not fair at all. legal discrimination. Then thought about the fact that blacks, are not the only race that is discriminated when it comes to language skills, its whites and Asian also. Here in Los Angeles its NOT a level playing field. especially in the manufacturing and processing sectors.

Thats why we always must update our skill sets!

You do not want to work for this company if you spoke 2 languages you do not want to be forced ti speak not unless no one else is available remember i do not care what language a perdpn speaks often times the language isn't spoken correctly. English is the language for the work force in america.

In that case that's totally wrong to do something like that they should be ashamed of themselves

Well that's all true but now it's the blacks that are doing the discriminating

I have the same problem along with being discriminated against and I have not been able to find a job as of yet and I've been looking for a year now. I thought it was against the law to discriminate how come companies get away with it.

Don't let this hold you off , not any day, never give up on your dreams, my prayers for you to get to school, be a better you ..than you ever been!!! Never stop thinking to get reeducate yourself and try trucking or nursing, or if you want try driving to get the days that you can work....f you can try Lyft driver... prayers for you and your family

living out here in vegas i figured i need to learn spanish and a lot of other languages

Did the employer offer you the job? Or did they say: "we'll keep in touch"? Anything could have happened in the seven days since your interview. They most likely for found a bilingual candidate who spoke the right second language. The ability to speak more than one language is not a new reality. It is an old reality, as old as Plymouth Colony. Some, only some, employers give incentive to their workers to learn English as a Second Language and attend job skills classes. But that's not stopping anyone from seeking them on their own. I know that they are readily available as continuing education courses through the community colleges, high school district adult education programs, and the libraries. Since you speak of fairness, it is only fair that you should add a second language to your skillset. If you're thinking French, you'll make as much progress as an escargot in your job market. If you're thinking Spanish... well, isn't it the second-most spoken language in Los Angeles County?
Adapt, Mike! I too had to adapt and assimilate! I arrived in the United States mainland from Puerto Rico with a Lt. Chekov worldview and an insufferable Inspector Clouseau accent. I improved my diction, and learned more about American popular culture and many other things that weren't in the encyclopedias, dictionaries, or history books. That's right, it happened before there was an Internet and Encyclopedia Britannica panicked. And yes, I fare better than others with the same education and knowledge. Yes, others, white people too!
Then you speak of legal discrimination. Since when is discrimination legal? Sifting through your incoherent seventh sentence, you drag three races into your personal - yes, personal - problem. This is how communists and race baiters keep reducing otherwise proud and productive people into believing that they are victims of "the man" and that they should collect the pittance that is rightfully theirs from the "great white father". Of course, they don't tell you that these entities are one and the same.
Sure, they could have sent you to take evening classes for the necessary second language; but hiring managers don't hire potential, they hire proven talent. Are you going to fall for the model-of-sameness scam that was condemned in The Giver, or are you going to turn yourself into a stronger, more valuable, individual? Please abandon the fairness platitude. Somehow, our sense of fairness remains stuck at four years of age, wherein fairness is all four year-old can get away with. You know how preschoolers are: You: Here's your ice cream. Child: No fair! You: Everyone has ice cream. Child: No fair, I want two scoops! You: Everyone has only one scoop. Child: No fair! You: Alright, here's a second scoop. Child: No fair! You: Now what's wrong? Child: I want chocolate! No one can satisfy the unsatisfied but themselves.
And what do you mean with Los Angeles not being a level playing field? If you ever want to impress the hiring manager, you'll have to level the playing field yourself. Preparation, determination, results!
You're in California, for crying out loud! This is a state of employment-at-will, not right-to-work. The employee/employer relationship may begin or end at any time with prior notification.

Man, that's crazy.
