Project Technician at Global Power Technologies Llc

Not getting anywhere, fast or slowly

I am recently (well, all the way back in January) laid off from a great job. I was traveling and working for a small company providing client infrastructure programming for the integration of electrical equipment into a Power Monitoring System. I have been sending out resumes for six (6) months and not (obviously) getting enough responses (or even the time of day) from recruiters. I live in a rural area on the Delmarva peninsula and understand the lack of non-tourism/non-sales industry 'round these parts but, I am feeling a little bit Hopeless right about now. When I do get a response from a recruiter, it does not go much farther then that. If it does, it is usually for a field service technician which has more to do with my previous job and that's understandable and I would Love the chance to do just that. For instance, I had an interview for a cable installer but, never got a call back, despite my once-a-day call in starting the day they said to call. I had another recruiter call two days ago for a field installation guy and that call back from the hiring manager is yet to be heard. Any Jobcasers wish to give a prospectus on my resume or tell me what I am doing wrong? Please advise, Thankfully, Hopeless.

I can understand you feelings and your frustration. It not a matter of what you are doing wrong. It just takes getting your resume past the gatekeepers. I got my resume into the hands of the actual hiring managers. It takes a little research and some digging. I actually delivered my resume to a few front office managers. They know who is hiring and who to get your resume to. I had my visit correspond to job fairs I was attending in the area. It's like cold calling, but person to person resume delivery. Some panned out, others were for naught. Direct results were I did get some contacts out of the circulation and a few interviews. I am now finishing my employment orientation and waiting on my clearance reactivation. It's not conventional, but todays hiring practices are not easy. Hope this helps.

Hey Jacob, I don't see a resume on you Jobcase profile but if your looking for a job in telecommunications companies like Comcast have an automated tracking system for their online applications. In order to get passed their initial selection process your resume and application information needs to mirror the key words in the job description. Also make sure you emphasize customer service experience. Upload your resume and add some examples of jobs your applying for and I'll follow-up with more specific information.
