Beyond confused.
I applied for a position as an assistant manager position in retail, I don't have any experience in retail or in management so I figured it was a long shot, was never called in for an interview but over a month later I was offered the job through an email and was sent instructions to fill out a hire packet online. I got a phone call the day after confirming my salary and letting me know someone would call me after my background check and drug screening came back. That was two weeks ago, I've never had to do a background check and I'm getting conflicting answers online about how long one should take. I called to check on the status last week and the person I talked to didn't know anything but, said he'd call me back after he talked to someone who would know, he never called back so I called again yesterday, he didn't pick up so I left a message and I'm still waiting. I'm in my mid twenties and kept the same job since I was 19 and I landed it by going in and asking if they were hiring, so I'm rather inexperienced in the hiring process. Is it possible they sent the email and hiring packet to the wrong candidate? It's a small town and I know several people who work at the store, but I don't believe I know any of the managers. Also, how many times can I call to check on the status without being a pest?

I would call again and again, until they give you the right answer or tell you the truth. Back ground checks takes a few days at the most. No more than a week,so be up front and ask them what's going on.

It only takes a week unless you lived in several states.Move on,they most likely hired someone with expierence.

Sometimes a background check takes a few weeks or more to get back I hope the job is yours

Do what's best for you. Just like employers. They hired what's best for the company to expand and grow in the business industry. They want the best employees to show their clients they can trust their business and trust their word. It seems you do best walking in to a business, present yourself, in a professional manner. Be the professional person that you are and I believe that you will succeed. My opinion.....

None

I would go to the store and check in person since you said it is a small town.

Sounds like someone now has every piece of legal information about you that they would ever need.

I have never in my life been hired and then done all the paperwork online! Doesn't sound right, I have been in that position of hiring cashiers, first thing they need to bring in is I.D and social security card for me to make copies . While I'm making copies, they are filling out the paperwork. Never online

I would call the corporate office to make sure it’s not a scam.
Be careful. Sounds like a scam to me. Make sure you don’t give them any of your personal information especially social security number until you know this is 100% legit.
