Trapped in retail

I'm saddened by the bleak job opportunities that anyone over 45 has . Rejection rate is very high as no company is apt to hire this age group over younger people.

Enterprise Bank Express Employment Bookkeeping Assistant at Citigroup

Good reply - I want to add that it was real bleak when I was 22 and started at McDonnell Douglas and got $2.10 an hour in the 70s ... I was alone and on my own and I was living on Suzy Q's and chocolate milk on 2nd shift lunch but that was all I ate and I weighed about 122....ha ha.... Now I am unemployed have all these damn recruiters calling me and I do get a pension (not enough to retire on) and yes I have a husband BUT WE HAVE 3 TIMES AS MUCH CRAP TO PAY FOR ... How I get by is I go to my Employment Committee at my church group and there are a bunch of us IN THE SAME B O A T.... there are speaker events, folks that come and give meetings on LinkedIn, Resume Writing, and sometimes we just interview one another. I have been doing this for 9 years ................We do have a prayer every beginning and end but after today I GUESS WE CALL NEED IT.... P.S. Love your neighbor dont shoot them....

I have to say I totally agree. Now a days the employers are young and want young. Unfortunately what these employers don't understand is that our generation is about workinv, taking care of our family and definitely want to make a difference in the job market. Keep looking and keep trying. There are still employers looking for us. I know for certain. I've put in over 50 resumes with no avail. But I didn't give up. I've been offered 2 career opportunities this week. My only decision now is witch one to take. Things do work out and patience is definitely a virtue

Keep looking I am 64 and still have to work I just have to change my attitude towards working in the same field i have been in for 47 years as it's true they want the younger ones and not experience. It's the facts people 50 and older have a hell of a time but don't give up.

No one will hire my age group? Wow I hear a lot of people in all age groups saying they have a hard time getting employed.

LOL Try over 65! I do believe that the solution is in online work, that looks pretty bleak too like writing code for about $3 an hour. America is not overly kind to its old people.
