Just a question.
I'm relatively new to this site, so guidance would be helpful. I have been in all aspects of nursing for 20+ years. I want to change what I do. How do I get employers to give me a chance to show what I can do? I am so much more than nursing.

Love your attitude, yes people are not what they do. People are special, Find something you love and do that.

So what other skills do you have

I would have to say, for the most part, this site is networking and encouraging those who are going through finding employment. A place to vent out. There are Job Coaches available. I can identify with the "change of career". I was a home care aide for 10+ years, but then I got into my own business of house cleaning and I enjoy what I do. I am also getting into a wellness program, and sharing with others what I am learning. Since being on this website, I share with others what has been helpful to me so far and encourage others who are feeling "down" about their current situations.

I am going through the same thing Melissa, I cannot get anyone to see passed the former positions of LPN. It is discouraging.

Well iwent from a doctors assistant to another doctors billing then toa hostess after i had my son Then a childrens librarian helkper in our town school system. 'i enjoyed all my jobs but getting older and my children want me to stay retired but i am always looking at the job sites. just keep on trying new things.

Try an intake coordinator job...As a Supervisor

Melissa, Go to some temp agencies and sign up and tell them what you are interested in. Once they know you have other skill sets they will test you on your typing, computer skills, and software programs. Also, redo your resume on this job site and your cover letter as well. There are several untube channels that let you update your skills while you are trying to find out the type of job you desire. allisons.com has 125 software programs that you can update your skills on with certifications all for free. Another one is Sali Kacelii and he has beginners to intermediate to advanced classes. Both of these sites take you step- by -step on how to master these software programs. I used Sali Kacelli to learn several programs when I had to reinvent myself. Also the 2020census.gov/jobs they are hiring nationwide and it is temporary but it could get you by until you find what you want to do. I hope I was able to help you God bless TYTJ

ask to work as a doctors helper and you will learn so much .like billing and patient coding.

First thing that comes to mind with your background you can go into private duty nursing it also pays very well. Maybe as a veterinarian helping animals that's also helping people too. As a nurse for 20+ years maybe you're getting tired of all the politics that can be encountered working for large hospitals. ,, think about this, maybe going into another profession like I first mentioned or take a technical school course in something you've always dreamed you'd like to do, this can be done after work on-line and don't need to let anybody know what you're doing because it's your life. You have to be happy in whatever you do, come to work with a smile while helping people and feel good inside while doing it. Had a chance to go into radio when I was 21 announcing the weather reports in Lockhart Texas, but took up auto mechanics, been doing this for the past 45+ years, make good money and most of all feel good about helping people, and also as a Western artist for the best 25 plus years. In whatever you do be happy and you will be okay.
Changing careers can be tough, but I think it's a good idea to take some classes in the field you want to get into. This way, you'll be able to make a change with some knowledge about this new field under your belt.
