I use to work in a team of 5. The senior most person of our group never gave me proper KT in fear that I may take over from him. He was in regular touch with client and higher management whatever activity is assigned he take the lead and complete it and I was always ranked as second in team. I never got an opportunity to prove that I am equally eligible as he is. I switched my company and now the same is happening with other new members of the team I don't want the same to happen with them ..what would you should do break this intentional dependency the senior has created ?

Hi RP ~ Thanks for your question and for joining Jobcase! It's a little tough to understand the complete picture without knowing more (filling in your profile would help!), but it sounds like you're interested in knowing how to develop your skills so that you'll be selected to interface with clients ~ am I right? If that's the case, then I'd recommend you ask for a meeting with your direct supervisor to discuss. Please keep in mind that the manager of a team needs to assess his/her whole team's skills in many areas: technical aptitude, ability to communicate internally and externally, ability to prioritize, as well as support business goals. You need to ask for a CANDID assessment of your skills in these areas... then listen to the feedback. This last part is very important, especially since you're recognizing a pattern.
Please remember: you're probably going to hear things you won't like. You'll need to work on areas that aren't comfortable. Sometimes classes help, sometimes an outside mentor is the right answer... you'll have to work together to figure out the right answer. Keep an open mind, try your best, and continue to communicate with management.
