First Impression
Your first impression is everything when going to a job interview. When I worked as a recruiter I saw many things. I always was happy when people came in dressed in casual attire or a nice pair of slacks if they have them. No one wanted to see your underwear, very not hirable and I have told some to pull their pant up.

It's nice to hear somebody say it. I see some people that are going for interviews, that are dressed for a pick-up basketball game afterwards. Saggy pants, chest hair popping out, no deodorant, come on, you are asking people to hire you.
You're absolutely right, Lynn! The first impression does matter quite a bit in interviews. And while it helps to wear something that looks nice, you definitely want to remain classy and comfortable. I agree that first impression is key to success but sometimes I feel employers expect people to buy expensive clothing. I'm on fixed income SSDI and I rely on Goodwill or Walmart for my clothes. I'm also self employed and so my extra income from my job varies each month. I'm working on saving for a secured credit card so I can rebuild my credit and buy clothes from Macy's etc. I also think interviewers make snap judgments with first impressions. I had an interview with Old Navy this summer and the gentleman made me very nervous. I dressed in business casual attire and I was the first person there and even got there early but didn't give him a copy of my resume. Two days later I got an email stating I was not going on to the next step in the hiring process. I feel I need more coaching its been years since I tried to get a job. I now have a new résumé but not great clothes. Bills are stacking up. Any advice? Thank you for your help.
