Concerned with all the job applications asking for the full date of birth. I am 53 yrs old and feel like I have many years of qualified experience, however, feel as though age is now a huge factor. I thought that questions like this are discriminatory, but I have no option to answer this question on online job boards. Many indicate this section is optional at first, but when you skip it, you are told it is required.

Give them the month and day only. If they ask for the year, then you have a custom made age discrimination lawsuit to pursue. I am not one to encourage litigation (too many lawyers causing too problems), but since age discrimination is as illegal as discrimination for religious beliefs or race - then you have a legitimate case. Here is another thought, I never pursue a job where I have to fill out an application. They will either accept my resume or I will decline to show any more interest in that business. If you have a career in a certain field, only the very worst and cheapest companies will ask you to fill out an application. Professional businesses with legitimate needs will accept your resume.
Most companies do not ask for your birthdate, but many ask for your college graduation date. Which is a shabby way of practicing age discrimination. At the same time, these companies have language postings that they do not discriminate on age, sexual orientation, Nationality, etc. to meet EEOC and ADA requirements. So that is total bullshit. They discriminate. Beware of the recent trend toward video interviews...
Most of the time, companies don't ask for your exact birthday. But they do ask for your college graduation date, which is a shabby way of doing the same thing. This type of thing may call exist along side Language saying the company does not discriminate based on sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, disability, etc. to satisfy EEOC And the ADA.

As per law, nobody should ask your date of birth, SSN (complete) etc. This is security threat. You identify may be stolen. Be careful.

Lynn,I know what you are saying...I too am in the same boat as you are...if we try to leave something out..it won't let it go through....I'm a young 70...I'm not going to put my age down anymore....good luck to you !!
