It's All About Who You Know!

I hate to say it, but that seems to be the hiring trend in my area.

The past 2 interviews I've had have been because I knew someone who recommended me, and personally handed over my resume to their bosses. Of the online applications I've filled out, I haven't heard back from many, but I think I could definitely be more aggressive about the follow up with those.

This is why networking is so important! The more people you meet, the more people you could possibly use as references, and insider information on the company!

Networking is great if that is what you are doing. Facebook was originally made for networking and you see how it turned out. I don't do networking on any site like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. I do use LinkedIn and job case but that's it. I don't like knowing what is going on in others lives so it's only if it is used properly. I totally agree it's who you know but sometimes that's not even enough. It sucks that you have to be involved with others to even get jobs these days. Im like you I'd rather follow up on jobs that I applied for because at the end of the day there could be a better opportunity.
