Pregnant and worried

I work in very male-dominated advertising office. I recently found out I’m pregnant. I’m worried my company is going to look down at me or slowly push me out of my job because I’ll eventually go on maternity leave. What should I do?

Rhonda, congratulations on your new little life and your new life. How large is your company? if your company employs 50 people or more you are entitled to FMLA. This expressly protects your job while on an extended absence. FMLA however is a guideline. Read your employee manual and speak with your HR to determine maternity leave policies and extended absence policies specific to your company; they may be more generous than the FMLA minimums. Also speak with HR about your specific job role and any restrictions and accommodations you might require as your pregnancy advances. I wish you and your new baby well.

Hello Rhonda, you are pregnant not with just a baby, but with one of GODS' creations. Embrace the thought of the life inside of you, and let go of the worries around you. If GOD is for us, then who can be against us? Take your feelings to Jesus, and invite Him into your life, job, home, car and everywhere you go. Hold onto your peace, joy, faith, and watch GOD fight your battles, for the battle is not yours it's The LORDS.. you just take care of you and that precious gift inside of you. Not every female is Blessed with the gift of life inside of them.May GOD bless you and Keep you, this is my prayer, in Jesus Name...AMEN!!!

Hi Rhonda: I can understand where your fears are coming from - it's tough to feel like the odd person out, especially when you're going through such a major life change. First, I'd definitely connect with HR as soon as possible about what you're entitled to with your company's maternity leave. Come prepared by knowing your state's laws about maternity leave (and nursing rooms - some states require companies to provide mothers with a room for pumping!). Don't let anyone push you out of your job role - you got that job for a reason, and that's not changing just because you're pregnant. Best of luck to you!
