Lots of hats!

Greetings! I'm here because I have many skills that can be used by a plethora of employers, yet I remain unemployed. I can do engineering and architectural drafting (both 2D and 3D), I can build websites, I can create logos and website content, and can also paint a unique piece of decorative art especially for your home. However, I'm having difficulty connecting what I can do with someone who could use my skills. I keep putting in applications but I get no responses. Any suggestions?

Hi Nancy - You mentioned that you have many skills, but I am wondering if perhaps you have not been able to narrow down all of them to focus on where you want to work. Subsequently, employers may not be able to decipher what it is you are good at. Do you want to create web content? Do you want to be a Graphic Designer? I would focus in on what creative area you want to pursue then list the top 3 -5 skills you have in that area. Your resume should reinforce those skills. Good luck!

Hi Nancy: Don't worry, employers won't think you're a moron at all! In fact, they may appreciate the time you're taking. Just call to say that you applied to their job post, and if they had time to answer a few questions you have about the job or the company. Then end the call by asking if they have a hiring date in mind. Don't feel shy about being persistent - that's how jobs are landed!

Hey Nancy, sounds like you have a lot of potential to offer employers! Just a quick question - have you been following up on all of the applications you send out? Placing a call a couple of days after applying can work wonders for getting employers to notice you. Also, it seems like you have a lot of skills that might translate to freelancing - check out Guru.com, Thumbtack.com, and Upwork.com to see if you could market any of your skills on these sites. Hope this helps!
