Out of work for six years
I don't know what else to do. I am 55 years old. I don't look my age but my grey hair doesn't help me. I have a master's of science degree in Organisational Management. I have years of management and five years being a Project Manager. I feel I am comfortable and confident during my interviews. But I can't get any job offers. Not to mention all the job posting are paying about half or less then what I was making. I do know of a lot of people that have had to take jobs at half what they have been making, but I cannot even get any offer. I present myself well and do all the things you should do during an interview. I have been sitting home for six years now and I can't take it anymore. I must get a job. I look for jobs everyday for about four hours on my computer everyday. I also have a vocational job support group that helps me every week. I think each position has so many candidates applying for the same job that someone my age does not have a chance. Please let me know what you think I could do differently. Thank you and if you are out of work I hope you find something.
Even at my age (mid-forties) job prospects have started to slow down quite a bit. I'm thinking that when I retire I might just work from home, that way I can avoid all this mess about ageism. Might be something to look into if you have a home office and the skills required.
