I think that itemizing the codes to specific procedures is a great way to reduce manage costs because with this plan medical services aren’t generalized anymore. I can go to see my doctor for an ear infection and there will be an itemized code for an ear infection as opposed to a general code for ear, nose, and throat. But this article says the new coding is an optional until 2017 so some doctors and hospital administrators can choose to stay on the old coding system. There’s no mention as to how insurance companies plan to manage coverage so I’m interested to know if this means less coverage.
