Discouraging

I find it hard to find a job in the field of addictions because 1 I have never used a day in my life 2 they want someone with experience at least 1 to 5 years. Well guess what I have 14 years experience with addiction because my ex fiancee is an addict. I love helping people but just can't seem to get a break in this field. I also have my bachelor's decree in chemical dependence. What am I doing wrong?

This Army Veteran is Unemployed, but Hopeful

I am one of those folks that battles the demon of addiction. I am an Army vet, 50ish, and I am pretty upfront. To be honest, when I go to the VA, or to therapy...I personally find it difficult to listen to a person that received their combat knowledge and or substance abuse by "proxy". Please, I mean this respectfully! I do find it awesome that your passion is to help us folks. God bless you. In Phoenix, we have places like the VA, Community Bridges, Crossroads, and they seem to have peer support that are not previous addicts...food for thought, hang in there, sistah!

Try volunteering for a non-profit substance abuse program. Here in Michigan, the Salvation Army has an excellent program. Maybe they have the same program in your city.

Hi, I don't have experience in addiction, however I have to say the constant every day applying is sometime heavy because U KNOW YOUR value, but the recruiters are not aware!! Keep your head up, shake that off!! Start fresh everyday so the heaviness won't stick!!happy hunting !!

I pray you get a connection, and would you work at a health insurance company? You could always do claims, or customer service while you look.
