Hire me!

I cant understand the people hiring at the moment. I am a college graduate with significant work experience and can get the job done. But, the hiring managers seem to look for a superman who knows everything instead of grooming a new hire through training. I am having a real difficult time lending a job due to these hurdles. I just want to work.

Hi Syed:

While there are a lot of jobs listed, most of the jobs are for singular positions and there are a LOT of people applying to that one job.

In instances like this, it is very competitive and all it takes is for one person to appear better suited for the job. That's not even considering that the job might even be earmarked for an internal candidate.

If you have the experience and education to do the job, and your resume and cover letter are on point, you might need to find more creative ways to stand out.

Follow the company on LinkedIn, research each job for which you apply. If the company has core values or a mission statement, make sure you address this in your communication with them. Let them know that you have read their mission statement/core values and let them know how the work/skills you have align to those values.

Make connections with the recruiters and HR for the companies on LinkedIn. They will often post jobs from their accounts and you can reach out to them via direct message where they can learn more about you in real time.

It takes a lot of effort to stand out. Companies aren't looking for a superhuman, but they are looking for someone who has the experience and education to do the job, but more importantly, they want to hire someone who embraces their culture and desires to be part of a collaborative process. That's where speaking to their values/mission statement will help.

Keep fighting, there is a job out there for you. Eventually you will be the guy who gets the job and leaves others wondering just what it takes to find work.
