What's wrong with my internet service?

I am looking for a work at home customer service or technical support job, found plenty except ALL of them claim satellite internet service is not high speed. 25Mbps download, 5Mbps upload is faster than most companies want but still they reject me because I have satellite internet service. What gives?

Even VOIP is fine over my connection, I explain that to them, tell them I AM talking to them on my home VOIP because that's my only phone - landline phones ae not available on my road. They act surprised then tell me satellite internet is an automatic deal killer, I cant work for them.

The first of this year, still on my 24 month intro,Xfinity/Comcast went from 25 gb to 60.For streaming it makes a huge difference. My problem is no landline. My tiny burg only has 1 crappy, overpriced landline. When I quit it almost 20 years ago it was $100.12 cents a call in this town & all other towns long didtance- so much per minute.I can't afford that. Our crooked water bills are that much per month also.& this year 4 moths they overcharged just me & hubby $35-$40 per month!

With satellite Internet they are concerned that there may be interruptions to service. When it gets cloudy or rainy the satellite feed tends to become spotty and that cannot happen when you are servicing guests. If you had cable Internet you could plug a phone directly into the modem and that would be considered a landline. Just FYI

Laura, VOIP is voice over internet protocol. Basically your telephone is plugged directly into your computer instead of a physical phone jack in the wall. I had Basictalk for 3 yrs and never had a dropped call or a bad connection. I don't understand why they don't accept VOIP either.

Hi Bev, don't feel bad. I applied for 3 WFH jobs and according to the two companies I did really well on the assessments, BUT, they said my p.c didn't pass the compatibility test. Ok, fine! Not until I applied to third company did anyone even tell me my computer didn't pass the compatibility portion. Then to make bad matters worst, you have to wait 3 months before you can reapply Having being a long time cable cord cutter, I really didn't want to have to pay for high speed internet and a landline phone without even a guarantee that I had the position. By the way my computer is only 4 years old running Windows 8, I could easily have updated that to Windows 10. It's just awful that the criteria you need to meet is difficult. I wont apply for another until I have all the above forementioned. Good luck and keep trying!!!

Satellite Internet tends to go out more than cable. Like if a cloud goes over head, you can lose your signal. That's what happens to my tv all the time with satellite.

Huh. Interesting. Been thinking about trying to work from home and I had no idea this was a thing. I satellite supposed to be less reliable than other forms of internet? I'm way out of my area of expertise on this so if any of you techie people want to chime in be my guest...
