CV or Resume

For professional job search I see some companies are asking for a CV, but I prefer a resume format. Any thoughts or advice?

LEAD DESIGNER.

Resume means to resume (shorten) your experience for that job in particular and any skills related to it. CV stand for curriculum in vita. In other words your whole life story even if it doesn't have to be with the job. Which I think is an absurdity if you are applying for an 8-5 job.

The difference between a CV and a resume is the length, the purpose and the layout. The resume is shorter is a brief summary of your skills and experience usually one or two pages. The CV is more detailed and it is because the employer wants to see all your experience, education and skills, this one can be more lengthy more than two pages.

CV’s are different from resumes and are used by people in academia , authors, actors, etc. Its basically Life story. You’ll want to include any publications, presentations, above and beyond the scope of your career also. It can be many pages and it’s preferred that you document everything. Mine is a work in process always continue to add new accomplishments even if you aren’t looking for a new job.

I always thought a CV was a resume. People use all sorts of acronyms that may have more than one meaning. When I use an acronym I let people know what I am talking about so they may ask questions if they are not sure.

Anything can be fixed

Only do resume here. They want a cv then i dont want the position. Employers seem to over complicate everything now. I reciently learned what a cv is and seems a bit over kill. Why should anyone get so far into detail of their expearance? Are the people so clueless and lazy not to exsamine a resume? Cant they come up with questions off a resume? When i used to work for companies, my basic premise was can you do the job? Can you adjust and mitigate situations? Will you come to work? Will you work? If yes then prove it. I am from a diffrent era of management, mine was limited on applicants. We learned that make due with what is available, turn a ok employee into an asset. Now they expect an asset off the bat, and bypass the employees that are potental stars in their field. The expearance this person has, as follows. Law, heavy truck repairs, eletrician, CDL, property management, security and transportation management. The worst in finding employment in all that is history in law. This expearance makes every employer nervous. This case too much information is bad. Owning property and managing it, law is a good background to have. A cv in that case would proclude a person from most every job.
