Still Searching
Good morning all! After revising and revising resumes, and still working three part-time jobs, I am able to get interviews ( some) , but nothing for full time! Now, I have also revised my interview strategies. Things seem to change every minute. What would be the most logical position a person could have with these attributes? Successful educator, director in religious setting, thirty plus years of positive interactions in public relations, public speaker and within all of these positions, administrative assistant, proficiency in WIndows and Apple platforms, ( Word, Excel, Publisher). Thank you

I am very proficient in all Microsoft office software. I am a people person and have great customer service skills. I own 2 business. My husband runs the one full time. I run the other part time. I'm well spoken. Very dependable. Management skills. Administration skills. I'm okay with part time if that's all you Have. Dawn Robinson 225-363-5377

Our age is working against both of us. I'm going back to private consulting.

I've signed up with a temp agency, and thinking of signing up with more. I am also doing independent job searches, but haven't seen much results, as of yet. The more prospects the better the results? And lots of prayer!!!God has a plan...hang in there!!!

Part of the job hunt these days is tailoring your resume to the job posting. Many times when you're applying on-line, you're resume is first being looked at by some type of key-work scanning software to see if you have the "necessary" qualifications (aka does your choice of words on the resume match the job description). I know it can be a LOT of work but tailoring and tweaking your resume for each job posting can help (and I often save them under the date and name of the company so I can easily refer back to them). Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for all of your positive words of encouragement and congratulations! I gave my official resignation letter to the department director ( whom he and I have always gotten along quite well), and he looks at me, sad and asks, "Why"? And I told him! Haven't given letter to department supervisor yet. Anyhow, some one asked me about what did I change, how did get this opportunity. I pretty much stayed with three job boards, "indeed.com", Career Builder and ZipRecruiter. Also, I had mentioned earlier that I was constantly revising my resume, this time I didn't, except to put my very short lived insurance agent position in another category. It was Sitel.com who saw my resume ( and I honestly don't remember which job board, sorry), but they called me about four weeks ago, interviewed by phone the following week. I received another phone call asking if I was still interested! Of course, YES!
From then, I received information for me to get screened, filled out form for background and credit check. I received contingent offer, last week with the final offer a few days later.
I think my best advice is to go back through your resume, go back through the previous employments that you have and look for areas that you have other skills /experience. For me, even though I held directorship, worked in religious settings, I looked at administrative area, public speaking, instructing, public relations to see what I could use.
That may have been the spark needed in order for me to get this position.
I apologize for this being long, I wish everyone much success and please don't give up! Yes, there have been times that I have wanted to do that, I just couldn't. Besides that, I'm not ready to retire anytime soon!

Well all, since I last posted, I have found a full time position working for SITEL Work@Home Solutions of which Cox Communications is one of their clients! It's full time with benefits, one of which is being here at home, not commuting!! I begin on May 16! I read all of your suggestions and continued to look for positions where my public speaking, work with various people in all walks of life, and my comfort level on computers and they called me! Thank you all for your wise input and encourage those who are struggling to keep going, don't give up!

Hi Karen, You have great experience and bring a lot to the table with an organization.
I'll share a bit of my experience and what I've learned in my recent job search. I found myself frustrated and depressed in a large pool of "no response" to job applications that I completed online. Online application processes seem to be the norm with most companies these days. Unfortunately, I believe most sit in a "virtual room" never to be visited by any breathing being!
I would highly recommend if you're not already doing this, to find a key executive within the company you are interested in (preferably the department too....like if your interested in sales, find out who the VP of sales is) and send a hard copy, physical resume and cover letter via good old snail mail direct to that individual. Cover letter should be directed toward particular job. I pulled a job description from a website an designed my cover letter to bullet point what they are looking for and then bullet pointed my qualifications that line up with their needs.
This can be a daunting task, overwhelming if not done in manageable chunks. I took 3-5 companies a week on my "preferred list", did this and began with a new company to start the next chapter of my career journey.
Hope this helps. Good luck and God bless!

Karen, It sounds like you have a lot to offer the right employer. You may have already done this...but with this much to offer, why dont you have a resume writing service tweak what you have into a format that is "eye catching", or "keyword matching" that the recruiter/hiring manager would like, (reread what they say and be sure that it represents you). When you have a final result you are happy, stick with with it. Note: Be sure to update all Job Boards, Recruiters etc., you do not want to have more that 1 "Current" Resume floating around, to choose from. If you do not hear back within a reasonable amount of time send a follow-up email to let them know that You are still interest in the position you applied for. Keep your head up, hopes up and stay diligent in your job search. Best Wishs!!!
