The Toys 'R Us Saga
Toys 'R Us has created a large stir across the U.S. It was the go-to store for parents, grandparents, etc. They have saved many Christmases and birthdays, and it will be terribly missed. For those who had the opportunity of working for the toy store, I hope that I can shed some light on helping you begin your job search. Whenever a person has invested time and have established a rapport with a company and its employees, it's very difficult to separate that bond. Yes, I believe that the way in which things were done was somewhat unexpected especially when things we going on as usual. It is time for the employees to accept change. Change is very difficult to accept for some, and for others change doesn't affect them. Sudden change, as in the case of Toys 'R Us, can be devastating, and that is what I have read in many of your posts. You have experience working for the toy store that you are not recognizing. You need to begin showcasing all of the skills you have obtained during your time at Toys 'R Us. It is time to update your resume. Use very powerful verbs like manage, supervise, coordinate, organize, conduct to describe your job duties. There are many retail stores that are constantly looking for part-time and full-time employees. They may not be like Toys 'R Us, but you will be able to use those skills you learned at Toys 'R Us. Now, for those who have always had a passion for something else, this is the time to do it. If it is taking some college courses, starting your own business, changing careers, just taking some time to spend with your children, or becoming a volunteer, begin your research,or talking with family or friends as to your course of action. Many people have gotten hired as a volunteer. This may be the time to do it. Yes, I understand that we have life obligations (mortgage, rent, utilities, car payment, etc.). They will always be there, but you only get one life to enjoy. I was told once that you can make more money by doing your passion. This is the time to decide what you want to do, and don't let life's sudden change scare you. It is just igniting your purpose and directing you to your destiny. Life will throw you lemons, so why not make a big pitcher of lemonade. As you approach your final days at Toys 'R Us, know that you are walking towards bigger and better things. Everything is going to work out if you believe in yourself! Good luck!
Thank you for this message Dawn, it's inspiring encouragement for all the Toys R Us employees in our community.
