Age related job search
I've been looking for an administrative assistant job, I'm not unskilled, I've worked for nearly 20 years and was let go due to work force reduction. I'm 57 and am wondering if anybody in this age range finds it difficult to find a job?

It's hard. I'm 56 and have been laid off 5 times in my career. I need to find a way to make a living being unemployed. It's tough out there, but you just have to keep going.

Hi Dorothy,I've been where you are. I'm 57 also. It took a while but i finally landed a great job. Don't give up. Our age group is stiil getting hired. Just believe in yourself. You be surprised how many employers prefer age over youth. Experience over youth. Someone who knows the job over someone they have to spend time showing them how to do the job. Have faith.

Welcome to ageism. Some of us are lucky to have escaped. Others, not so much. Just keep on looking.

I don't know if it helps, but yes. Of course, it is hard to find work at this age. I gave up and am working doing things more solo. It's harder to do, pays less, and much more lonely, but it can be done. At any rate, it is so difficult to find work in your 50s when others in their 20s and 30s are competing for the same jobs. My advice to anyone, if working for someone is important to you, don't leave until you get something else. If you feel the end is getting near, start looking.
Dorothy: You should be able to draw unemployent, if you were laid off NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN. Make sure the company you worked for gives you some paperwork to prove that you were laid off from your job, NO fault of your own.
