A job seeker

There is such a circumstance as a coworker writing a letter of reference for you. I had to do it one time when going to work for a new preschool and they asked me if I could give them a reference from my last job. It was a little reluctant on my part and then I felt better after I turned them in!

Hi Chandler , this is common , although these days references are mostly handled over the phone. You are basically attesting to the character or work ethics of your co-worker based on your experience.

Getting a reference from a coworker is never a bad thing, who knows your work ethic better than those who's in the same department as you.
