Villa Ricca, GA

So everyone hates driving in Georgia. So I will share what happened to me. Westbound on I20 heading from Atlanta to Alabama. Traffic was getting congested. At approximately the 26 mm you have a sign that says right lane exit only ahead. Just passed that sign you have another sign on the over pass that said all trucks over 6 wheels use two right lanes. Since I knew the right lane was exiting off, I used the left lane to pass everyone. Keep in mind at no time is there a sign that says End truck lane restriction. I went ahead and paid the ticket. But when you think about it, if the right lane is exiting off it is no longer a through travel lane. So which two right lanes is the sign talking about. If there had been a sign saying no trucks left lane I would have been in clear violation, but there wasn’t. So what is your opinion? Ticket trap?

You should have went to court. You would have beaten the charge. They do that because they know most truck drivers won't show up for court. It's a revenue thing. I live in GA believe me they are a lot of places that way.

I live in Georgia and I know exactly what you are talking about. There seems to be a lot of conflicting road signs in Georgia especially when you are approaching a lane that turns into an exit, and with the amount of traffic in Georgia it can easily create a scheme for an accident.

Another thing people typically in Georgia don't display a lot of roadside courtesy, and will almost instinctively close in on you so you can't merge back into a lane. This type of action is extremely dangerous on a fast moving highway; especially when you have vehicles and trucks moving at the speed of 75-80 miles an hour, and are confronted with having to make a quick decision.

The way that law is written in Georgia any vehicle with more than 6 wheels is absolutely not allowed in the left lane at any time when there are 3 Lanes or more unless otherwise marked right down to the very end of the three lanes

I still got some comment left in me lol! Drive your truck around Pittsburgh PA for a while. EVERYONE drives 18 miles per hour everywhere from Washington PA to New Kensington. Just put her in 3rd gear and let 'er roll.!

Hey Stephen. I see you paid the ticket but I think you did not violate by moving one lane left of the "dead lane" exiting. Distance of moving one lane left in ATL on any freeway should be liberal due to the traffic loads 24/7. I used to head to or around ATL from Charlotte all the time. When I was heading south on 85 as soon as I hit spaghetti junction I put my left blinker on and when I got through the ramp to merge on to 285 I kept blinking and merged all the way to the second inside lane cause you know 285 goes from 5 lanes down to 2 where it runs under 75. In Atlanta on the highways you can't wait to make your move or you are going to get jammed up. I was all about safety and obeying the laws including the truck restricted lanes but in some places you gotta do what you gotta do and -- well-- the policeman's job is to write tickets. You still did the right thing. People who have not driven tractor trailers just do not get it but you did right, so I hate you got burned but you did the safe thing and that is what counts. Just my opinion but I think Atlanta metro is worse for truck driving than Chicago, New York, New Jersey or even Los Angeles. I hated going down there. I don't hate Atlanta or Atlantans, just the TRAFFIC. Its enough to make a preacher cuss.

Trucks always stay in the right lane. The other lanes are for cars only

hard to say. I do know that They want the trucks in the right lanes because the cars in the left will some times be hitting speeds of 100 and over. so they use the trucks as barriers to slow them down before exiting the free way I was in Jersey one time and on a two lane( lost of course) and a speeding driver come over the hill and almost side swiped me. police pulled me over and said he saw what I done and if the driver make a complaint he was going to write me a ticket.

Yes I agree my self and I was one of the worst ones for jumping out in the left lane because someone was on the phone and slowed way down that they was in my way in a 65 mile an hour truck but I never got caught out in that lane I don't drive no more I retired and gave up my CDL'S. I HATE THAT YOU GOT A TICKET. YOU ALL BE SAFE OUT THERE AND MAKE PLENTY OF MONEY.
