Sales Rep./ Customer Service
I have a question in regards to these job assessment tests. Are they made for failure or am I just slow? I recently filed an application for AT&T for sales rep.,took the assessment test and was literally being honest on my responses but afterwards received a email stating that I did not qualify for the job because I failed the assessment test. Now I'm just getting back into the work field and currently working thru Temp Agencies. I'm just trying to earn my way an provide for myself. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sharnall, Also, keep in mind that the job market is tough right now. There are lots of people competing for the same positions. So, what might have previously been a passing score, may not now be a passing score. And depending on the type of assessment, how you do may be reflecting how you feel on that specific day. So, if you're feeling down that day, the test might pick up on that. Sometimes the instructions for the test will say that if you're having a bad day, then take the test on another day. Just keep applying. Something will turn up. Deb

From what I have heard and seen , the assessment is set up for one of two answers, you either strongly agree or strongly disagree

Hey Sharnall,
Welcome to Jobcase (in case no one else said it). Don't beat yourself up about the assessment test. Companies can make odd decisions when it comes to picking which applicants to hire and we will never know what they are thinking. Other applicants have stories similar to yours so I wouldn't take it personally.
I searched around and discovered that AT&T does allow candidates to re-take the test after 6 months. I also found out that there are study guides available which may improve your chances: http://att.jobs/resources/job-guide/study-guides
Let me know if any of this information is helpful.
I wish you the best of luck, Mik

Don't beat yourself up over a fail grade on a pre-employment assessment test especially with AT&T. I know current employees with multiple years experience working for the company that routinely fail their won assessment test when trying to qualify for another position. Assessment are required to instruct you to answer honestly but in reality who knows what their rally testing for. I've been advised to never provide middle answers to questions that offer multiple answering options like (Strongly Agree ....... Strongly Disagree) and that's worked for me on some assessments but total disasters on others. Expect to see more of these assessment test as you continue to apply for jobs outside the temp agency but try not to be discouraged by any mis-attempts to pass. Just move on to the next one or wait to the application grace period expires and re-apply.I'm sure you'll ACE IT!!!

Any feedback on how to respond to these assessment tests will be greatly helpful.
Some of them do have a way of gauging your responses and see how fast you catch on or how fast you are at reading and following instructions. Of course the hiring folks are not going to tell you that, they will tell your to take your time and answer thoroughly. But really, the longer you take, the worse that looks to them.
I took an assessment test for a position with B B & T bank, and it took me 4 hours! The test was about 500 questions and lots of open ended questions. The person who interviewed me assured me to take my time and answer thoroughly, so that is what I did.
I finished the assessment getting an 82% out of 100 right. Which was passing, and all I needed to land the job, but I did not get the job. All I got was a "we'll call you" and I never heard from them again. Years later I found that a great deal of people finish those test in 2 hours and under, mine took 4 and I think it had a lot to do with why I didn't get the job. I was qualified in every other way!
Keep this in mind with any other assessment. Be thorough, but be as quick as you can be about answering the questions, because you are being timed, whether they tell you or not!
