I uploaded my resume on UsaJobs. Recommended because I am a soon to be military retiree. Well I keeping getting contacted via email by companies I have never heard of. asking me to set up a Google IM account for an online interview. Call me naïve but are these for real? are just phishing scams.

That's really frustrating! It's good that you're alarmed by this, it does seem pretty fishy (no pun intended). There does seem to be a scam going around with USAJobs, but it's more trying to get your login information (see this article here: http://www.cid.army.mil/documents/CCIU/2can/USAJOBS%20Phishing%20Scam.pdf) But USAJobs does offer a good outline of what to look for in suspicious job offers:https://help.usajobs.gov/index.php/Avoiding_Phishing_and_Email_Scams

Basically it's that old saying: if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Personally I'd be suspicious of any employer using a gmail address instead of an obvious company email address.
