Served and Protected my Country - A mistake?
I served in the Armed Forces in a time of war. Forgoing my education, my life, for a calling I had from the age of 9 or 10. My ears open, my heart satisfied, as I signed the paperwork and pledged my promise to my fellow countrymen. Fast-forward 10-15 years later. The gift is given from my heart and soul to those that completed degree's, fellowship, scholarship, and networking. Building their solid foundation, of security, benefit, future, and wealth.
I sit looking into the mirror of life wondering what I was thinking. Why did I choose paper over solid brick? Why didn't I see those that had shin splints, flat-feet, and defect of thought as a means to launch into a successful life for myself and family? I sit sometimes hungry, mostly sad, discouraged, and frustrated. Working harder to apply, seek, and sell my anonymous profile to those that only look at data, and keywords. Dealing with those that despise reply E-mail, direct contact, phone calls, or real human to human communication. It was easier dodging bullets, sleeping in the sand, or the rain crying about a friend lost yesterday. Running, hiding, or choking on diesel as heads kept low for protection but always high with honors.
Honor, courage, and sacrifice priced at $1.99. Flat feet, academics, or those with silver already priced at a premium price of $12.99 in most stores. Not asking for scraps, handouts, or pitty. Asking for an opportunity to upgrade the foundation made of paper and has seasoned into wisdom.
Are we a nation of words and action no longer? One shot. One chance. Moto Mas is written one way and practiced another. We live it. It's real. It's fake. A trick the masses ignore or pull their bandanas over their eyes.
Are there any real opportunities left for people like me beyond a poor wage? I wish I could go back in time and limp myself to school and turn my back on that of which has little quantifiable value in our society. I wonder what could have been knowing now it's too late. Game over. A mistake?
