How can I find a legitimate sales job?

This is the first time looking for a full time sales job and, so far, my search results pull a lot of job openings but something seems a little off. I get nervous when all the job description talks about is earning a six figure salary. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind making money, but I think there's a lot more to being a good salesman. I don’t have the experience to break into the Fortune 500 companies but I’d like to purse a good entry level sales job if I can find one. Thanks in advance for any advice!

If you've never worked at retail before then my best advice is put an application in at your local Radio Shack, That is where I learned it and was scared I would fail..but picked it up quick, Your co-workers will help with sales pitches and the pos register systems are easy to learn...go for it! Makes a nice part time income to boot! Then go full fledge

Try ATT retail. They are always hiring and they have pay + small commission. ADT is hiring.

Matt, After analyzing your statements, I would say you are in your late teens or early twenties. Possibly a return missionary with no life experience outside the family and making cold calls on your mission. Having said that, the world is your oyster. You are picking sales because that's what you know. Step out. Try new things. My father taught me construction because that's what he did and what his father taught him. I chose to become a police officer. I always enjoyed service oriented careers over making money from over charging people who couldn't afford what I was selling. I taught this to my children. ..choose a career where you will be an asset if technology crashes or the money market fails. Also, now is the time to think about retirement. Many wait too long to start planning. You might have a plan, but life changes, learn to expect the unexpected and most of all. Take a few days and really think about who you are inside. I tell my girls all the time, "Remember who you are, and Remember your way home". You are going to face trials, changes, adversity and conflicts. If you know who you are first, you already know how you are going to react. Sales isn't your choice, it's your fall back. Put yourself out there and don't be afraid to fail or get your hands dirty. Before long, you will find what you love. And ALWAYS REMEMBER- Women are always right. Even when you think you are. You will find joy, happiness and true love. Go have fun.

Matt that depends on what your looking for, there are a great deal of legitimate sales jobs out there, car sales hard work but good money you have to be able to read people, freight sales again hard work. AAA good job but again hard work. Ticket sales for professional sport franchise, hard work. I heard a man the other day on the radio station I listen to that he ate "No's" for breakfast, he tried to get 12 no's before lunch because he knew if he got 12 no's he would get a yes.

You may want to consider the insurance industry. Lots of sales opportunities. Can even own your own agency. Check out Allstate or Horace Mann online.

There are plenty of insurance agencies looking for new agents. I get those sorts of emails at least weekly. Or financial advisors. Second, try going to Sales Job Insider. They have lots of those jobs.
Look for a company willing to train you, and don't discount jewelry stores or furniture stores. They often have sales positions.

What type of sales are you looking for? What type of industry? First of all you do not sound confident at all. If you want to work in sales the 1st requirement to be successful is confidence. Why can't you work for a Fortune 500 ? Why not a Fortune 50? If you don't have the confidence to sell yourself how do you think you can sell anything? Sorry but if you want to be in sales you have to demonstrate the qualities an employer is looking for.

Try car dealerships and Harley-Davidson dealorships. Harley has a really good training program and a pay scale. To start, you get hourly pay and commission. When you're ready, you can choose to move up to commission-only, though you do make a much larger commission. Some car dealorships might have the same thing too.
