Too much contracting???
I was told today that my credentials are stellar however, I contracted too much to ever be considered for a full-time position. Company refered to my contacting from end 2007-2013...did they not know what the economy was doing then??? I contracted for one company and lasted longer than 2 of the full time people they HIRED after me. So, now I am too old ( in 60s) and I contracted too much.
That's crazy, I guess that employer just losses out
I've never heard of anyone being turned down for too much contracting before. Add a brief outline of your contracting experience on a cover letter detailing all of the challenges you championed during those contracting years. I'm sure someone will realize your value.
Sandy, that's so frustrating! I used to contract, and I understand the struggle - I worked incredibly hard over those years (running a business is not easy!), but a lot of employers overlooked all my great experience. Can I ask why you don't want to contract anymore?
Hi Sandy - remember that "too much" is just one employer's subjective opinion. A contracting background may not be a good fit with this employer's hiring practices, but might be perfect for somebody else's. "Stellar credentials" is an AWESOME piece of feedback to get though!
Did you have any kind of business structure set up while you were contracting? (LLC, S-corp, Inc., etc.) If yes, and if you had a company name, it might be worth it to consider grouping all of your contracting experience under that one company name on your resume.
